Our shirt sponsors
We've had a history of rather regrettable shirt sponsors, from Doc Martins when they were associated with skinheads, to Betway which has just been fined for failing to prevent money laundering and gambling addiction. I wish the club would be more considered about the choice of sponsor, although under the current owners, as we know, money is everything.

"Betway is not fit to be on the shirts of a prestigious club such as West Ham"

Seems a perfect match for our grubby little triumverate.

Upon agreeing the new six-year deal last summer, West Ham described Betway as a ‘respected and responsible’ sponsor. Baroness Brady – who was paid £1.3million by the club last year –said: ‘We are delighted to once again extend our partnership with Betway... this is a new, long-term, record-breaking commercial deal for the club, which shows the faith that Betway has in West Ham United... we look forward to continuing to work with Betway as we embark on the next chapter for our great club, and we will use this partnership as a platform for success.’

Adam Bradford, who runs the Safer Online Gambling Group, said last night: ‘She of all people, a member of the House of Lords, has a public duty to act in the interest of the people. Someone needs to ask serious questions of her.’

James Grimes of the Big Step Project, which highlights the dangers of gambling’s links with football, said: ‘The immoral and unethical practices highlighted by the Daily Mail show Betway is not fit to be on the shirts of a prestigious club such as West Ham. I would urge Karren Brady to end this deal immediately to protect gambling addicts.’

Re: Our shirt sponsors
Doc Marten's. Probably our best and most apt sponsor the club has ever had.

I also can't see how G&S can be held responsible for the conduct, behaviour or lack of protocol by our sponsor. They don't manage or run the company so why would they be?

Many clubs have betting firms as sponsors and I bet their owners aren't involved in how those companies are run.

What is important now is how G&S respond. My view would be to drop the name from the shirt and our association with immediate effect. That would be the right message.

Right there with you, my first pair came in the mid 90s a few years before the sponsorship.

And I've just heard that Betway were done for the way they checked (or rather didn't) the VIP gamblers, as one person lost over 4 million quid in a year.

4 MILLION, FMOB!!!

The 2002-03 Dr Martens Away Shirt was a nice kit, white with claret pin stripe, "Di Canio 10" on the back, last kit I bought.

Wish I still had it.
